In brief...Scottish nurseries are likely to be packed with Jacks and Chloes

Scottish nurseries are likely to be packed with Jacks and Chloes over the coming years, as both names have once again topped the list of parents' favourites for their new babies. For the second year running, Jack was the most popular name given to boys born during the year, while Chloe has led the way for newborn girls for three years. They may denote a Millennial shift, as neither were the top names of the 1990s, when Ryan and Emma held sway over the decade as a whole. Runners-up among the most popular boys in 2000 included Lewis and Cameron, while Amy and Lauren tied in second place for girls. However, these names may not be assured of their place for long. Statistics show that the turnover in names' popularity is speeding up, particularly for girls, where the top ten changed completely between 1950 and 1975 and again between 1975 and 2000.
