'Make it a fiver, Gordon!'

'Make it a fiver, Gordon!' is the name of a campaign launched last week by the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG), calling on the Chancellor to increase the child tax credit by 5 a week for low-income families. The charity said that the Government will miss its first milestone target to reduce child poverty by a quarter by 2004/05 unless tax credits for children are increased in the April budget. The Chancellor is expected to announce the rate of the child tax credit for 2004 in his pre-budget statement in November. CPAG is now asking supporters to complete postcards or an e-card to be delivered to the Chancellor at 11 Downing Street before the statement. For more information on the campaign log on to www.cpag.org.uk.
