Nursery owner does a runner

(Photograph) - Scottish nursery owner Mairi Maciver Clark fended off cartoon characters, a French waitress and a squad of firefighters to complete the London Marathon this month. After juggling months of intensive training with the duties of running Mulberry Bush Kindergarten in Killearn, Glasgow, she completed the 26.2 miles in three hours 58 minutes and raised around 2,000 for the charity Children with Leukaemia, including sponsorship from Nursery World. Mairi, who now hopes to run the New York marathon in November, attributed her success to the support of her nursery staff and her family. She said, 'I loved every single minute. It was my first marathon and the carnival atmosphere was great. There was music and spectators were cheering me along all the way, and the London sights were fantastic. I had nerves at the starting line but 20 Kent firefighters helped me along and there was a lot of camaraderie and support. I found the whole experience very uplifting.'
