Recruitment drive proclaims success

About 30,000 people want to be childcarers as a result of last summer's childcare recruitment campaign for England, according to the Government. With the second stage of the campaign well underway, the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) siad that more than 42,000 people had responded to the first run of the 'Be someone to look up to' television and newspaper advertising campaign, which began last July.

Of these, 77 per cent had applied for or intended to apply for a job, and 74 per cent said they had enrolled in our intended to apply for a training course.

However, a DfEE spokesman admitted the figures were a 'snapshot' taken from a survey of 700 respondents - 400 women, 200 men, 50 students and 50 people from ethnic minorities - chosen at random across England.
