The 2005 Professional Nanny of the Year award put quality practice and career development in the spotlight This month's award ceremony for the second-ever Professional Nanny of the Year started out with the introduction of the first one. 'I've got five minutes left!' said 2004 winner Louise Kirk, as she rose to accept a framed certificate from organiser Tricia Pritchard, professional officer of the Professional Association of Nursery Nurses.

'I've got five minutes left!' said 2004 winner Louise Kirk, as she rose to accept a framed certificate from organiser Tricia Pritchard, professional officer of the Professional Association of Nursery Nurses.

Not that Louise wasn't ready to hand on her title to someone else. She told the assembled candidates, 'I've had a rollercoaster of a year, meeting government ministers, being involved with local projects and working to improve the nanny industry.' She might well be relieved to go back to concentrating on nannying and helping run the agency TLC Nannies with her sister, and let someone else be the spokesperson in the campaign to raise professional profiles for nannies everywhere.
