'Children of the Enemy, Welcome to My Home'

(BBC Radio 4, 11.02 to 11.30am)

Martha Kearney investigates a little-known chapter of post-war Europe when, between 1948 and 1950, more than 60,000 German children were fostered by Dutch families. Despite their suffering at the hands of the Germans when their country was occupied, these Dutch families put the welfare of the children before their hatred of Germany. Some of these children talk about their experiences with their host families and Kearney hears from foster parents and volunteers who organised the scheme.
