Effective use of technology can expand an EYP's practice, both in terms of supporting young children's learning and leading a team in the setting. Standard 37 'Develop and use skills in literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology to support their work with children and wider professional activities'

Standard 37 sits within 'Personal and Professional Development' of the Guidance to the standards. This section contains three standards outlining how EYPs must demonstrate, through their practice, that a secure knowledge and understanding of each of the three standards underpins their own leadership and practice.

ICT as a tool

Literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology (ICT) have an important role to play in most aspects of the EYP's role in both working with children in the setting, and in supporting their professional role. In this context, ICT includes internet-enabled computers and the relevant peripherals, CD-Rom and DVD-based software, digital projectors, digital cameras, interactive whiteboards, scanners, video recorders, and control and sensing equipment.
